Empowering girls through the power of community.

We are dedicated to empowering girls to become confident community leaders and advocates for social change. Our mission is rooted in the belief that every girl possesses the potential to make a significant impact within her community. To achieve this, we provide young girls with the necessary tools, resources, and mentorship through various programs and initiatives aimed at developing their leadership skills and enabling them to find their voices.

The cornerstone of our efforts is the Dove Program, an initiative initially designed as a six-week curriculum promoted by Dove Canada. Building upon the success of this initial phase, we expanded the program through the lens of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Dove Program has since become recognized across the country as a standard of practice for female empowerment for young girls. A key aspect of the program involves teaching girls the skills to bounce back from challenges.

Empowerment Group

Our program's curriculum addresses critical topics such as bullying, self-image, mental health, and communication. Furthermore, the girls actively engage in community projects, exemplified by their creation of 40 gift bags for the pediatric unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and fundraising efforts that generated over $1000 for the Cape Breton Cancer Center.

Curriculum Frameworks

The Dove Program's development has been significantly influenced by the principles of Social Emotional Learning, specifically the CASEL 5 framework. This framework encompasses five core skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. We believe that the development of these skills is crucial for youth to excel in their chosen paths.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5

Our Dove Program directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This goal remains a high priority for our program, as global gender parity remains a distant aspiration, particularly concerning women's participation in public life and managerial roles. Projections indicate that achieving gender parity in managerial positions alone will take 176 years at the current rate. Moreover, many women still lack control over their sexual and reproductive health, and violence against women persists, necessitating urgent action to challenge biased social norms, eliminate harmful practices, and change discriminatory laws. Increased investment in gender equality and the amplification of women's leadership roles at all levels are critical.

Dove Program Focus

Through our multifaceted approach, encompassing educational programs, community engagement, and alignment with global frameworks, we strive to cultivate the next generation of strong, empowered women who will lead with courage and conviction, shaping a better world and advocating for change.
