What is the Dove Program?

After the initial six-week curriculum created by Dove Canada, we have continued to expand on what we have been doing with our youth based on the CASEL 5. These frameworks allow our youth to develop skills that carry them through life.

Since the initial six weeks, we have focused on a curriculum directed by the youth, issues they want to discuss, and things we felt applied to our group. Our program has been recognized nationally and published in an op-ed report by the National Alliance of Children and Youth. This program continues to be one of our most successful programs to date.

Self-Guided Curriculum and Community Engagement

In the Dove program, we focus on topics that our youth feel are relevant to them. We value lived experience and think that if you want to have a successful program, you should listen to the individuals in the program and focus on what they want to talk about and accomplish. Because of this model, our Dove program has been our most successful program to date.

To date, the youth have completed two community projects. The youth chose to create gift bags for the children in the pediatrics unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and fill the bags with their prizes. They spoke the word selflessness and gave their things to people who may need them more than them.

The second community project that the group took on was a fundraiser for the Cape Breton Cancer Center, and to date, they have raised 700 dollars for cancer care in Cape Breton.

Through this, they give back to the community, which has been so good to them.
