Carol Young participates in the Dove Program in Cape Breton. At 9 years old, she is already making a difference in the community. During COVID-19, she counted bottles for a math project to practise her math skills. From there, she learned the true impact a young person can make. With the help of her mother and grandmother, this math project turned into something extraordinary.

Carol has filled 75 mugs for individuals in need. Small packages were provided to these organizations, which allowed their clients access to hygiene products they may not otherwise have. She has also created 105 winter care packages for individuals to help them through the harsh winters experienced on Cape Breton Island. Over the last number of years, she has made donations to the Autism Society and Alzheimer's Society—80 books to the book and PJ program.

When asked about her project, she simply said, “Give back to the people in need; the more you give, the more you receive.” For the last five years since the COVID-19 pandemic, with the help of her brother Henry, they have collected bottles and used the funds to make a difference in her community. At only nine years old, she shows her community that you can make a difference in your community no matter your age.
